Three student-athletes from the University of Wyoming’s swimming and diving team have tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash near the Wyoming–Colorado border. The victims have been identified as Carson Muir, 18, from Alabama; Charlie Clark, 19, from Nevada; and Luke Slabber, 21, from South Africa.
According to authorities, the group’s Toyota RAV4 went off the road at the intersection of Red Mountain Road and U.S. Highway 287 before rolling several times. Two passengers were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
Two additional teammates survived with injuries and have since been released from the hospital. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the accident, noting that no potential factors have been ruled out at this time. Officials confirmed the team members were not traveling for school-related activities.
University President Ed Seidel and Athletics Director Tom Burman expressed their heartbreak and extended support to the victims’ families and the campus community. Governor Mark Gordon also released a statement offering condolences, calling it a “devastating loss for the state.”
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the University of Wyoming and the broader athletic community, leaving friends, teammates, and supporters mourning the loss of three young lives taken far too soon.
