I’ve always known my mother-in-law didn’t like me — but I never imagined she’d humiliate me in front of everyone.
She’s accused me of marrying her son for his money more times than I can count. I usually bite my tongue for the sake of peace… until her 50th birthday party, when she finally went too far.
In front of dozens of guests, she called my 7-year-old son to the front, smiled sweetly, and said loud enough for everyone to hear:
“Everyone, meet my daughter-in-law’s lottery ticket!”
The crowd laughed awkwardly. My face burned. My husband said nothing — just stared at the floor. I swallowed my anger and forced a smile, pretending it didn’t hurt.
But karma works fast.
An hour later, a scream came from the kitchen. Everyone ran to see what happened. My mother-in-law stood there trembling, holding a small note someone had slipped into her pile of birthday cards.
It read:
“Family is the real lottery — treat it well before you lose it.”
The room went silent. She never looked me in the eye again.
