The lifeless body of a young woman, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was found inside a hotel located in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
The tragic discovery, which occurred on Saturday, has left many residents of the community worried and unsettled. Local sources told PUNCH Metro that the deceased had checked into the hotel with a young man believed to be an internet fraudster, commonly called a “Yahoo boy.” Not long after they arrived together, the man reportedly left the premises, abandoning the woman.
It was the hotel manager who later came across the woman’s body and immediately alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters. One witness explained:
“A young lady was found dead in one of the hotel rooms here in Igbogene on Saturday. She had checked in earlier with a suspected Yahoo boy, but he left shortly afterward. The manager who discovered the body promptly reported the case to the police.”
Confirming the incident, Bayelsa State Police Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Musa Muhammad, stated that an investigation had already begun to track down those responsible. He noted:
“We received the report yesterday. While no arrests have been made yet, an investigation is actively ongoing. We are making every effort to ensure that those behind this act are identified and brought to justice. In addition, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.”
The incident has once again stirred discussions within the community about personal safety, the dangers women face, and the risks associated with individuals involved in fraudulent or criminal lifestyles. Locals have urged security agencies to increase vigilance and put measures in place to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
