Family of Two Children, Ages 8 and 10, Speak Out After Annunciation Catholic Church

Following the recent tragedy at Annunciation Catholic Church, two families in Minneapolis are mourning the loss of their children, Harper Moyski, 10, and Fletcher Merkel, 8. Both kids were known for their happiness, generosity, and affection for friends and family.

According to his father, Fletcher was an active boy who enjoyed cooking, playing sports, and being outside. Harper’s parents remembered her as a kind, intelligent child who warmed everyone with her warmth and laughter. They observed Harper’s younger sister, who loved her sibling, was now in great pain.

In response, the Minneapolis community has offered consolation and unity through memorials and vigils. In addition to expressing shock at what had happened, parents, students, and neighbors also expressed gratitude for the prompt action taken by community members and staff to stop additional losses.

18 people were hurt in all, the majority of whom were children. There is some solace in the sadness as authorities have stated that everyone should recover.

The families are speaking up despite their loss. In lieu of the tragedy that ended it, Fletcher’s father urged the community to remember his son for the joy he brought to life. Harper’s parents emphasized that no family should have to go through such heartache and demanded that significant action be taken to address the problems that led to this point.

Federal investigators and local authorities are still looking into the tragedy’s circumstances. Their investigation’s findings might influence future steps to stop similar occurrences.

President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags flown at half-staff until August 31, 2025, expressed condolences, and asked the country to pray for those impacted. In his statement, he recognized the community’s resiliency as well as the families’ sorrow.

The families of Fletcher and Harper hope that their children’s lives will spur long-lasting change in Minneapolis, paving the way for a more secure and caring future where their memories endure.
