Dallas Air Show Tragedy: B-17 Flying Fortress and P-63 Kingcobra Collide in Mid-Air

In November 2022, a heartbreaking accident occurred at a Dallas air show when two historic World War II aircraft—the B-17 Flying Fortress and the P-63 Kingcobra—collided during a commemorative flight celebrating America’s aviation legacy. The mid-air collision destroyed both planes instantly, resulting in the deaths of all crew members on board.

The B-17, known as one of the most famous heavy bombers of the Second World War, and the P-63, a rare fighter plane, were participating in a Heritage Flight demonstration when the tragedy unfolded. As the aircraft crossed paths, the P-63 made contact with the B-17, triggering a catastrophic crash. Spectators, including families, veterans, and aviation fans, were left in shock as fiery debris fell from the sky.

Federal authorities, led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Early findings pointed to potential problems with flight coordination and the spacing of the planes during the demonstration. The NTSB ultimately confirmed that six crew members lost their lives in this devastating accident.
