‘He Has Nothing to Prove’: Fans React as Stevie Wonder Addresses Rumor About His Blindness

During a recent concert, the music icon offered a heartfelt rebuttal to a persistent conspiracy theory about his eyesight, and netizens responded with admiration and emotion.

On July 10, 2025, during a stop on his “Love, Light and Song” tour in Cardiff, Stevie Wonder spoke out about a long-standing rumor: that he can see. Performing at Blackweir Live, the musician calmly refuted the claim with a spiritual reflection that reframed blindness as a gift, one that has shaped his view of the world and people.

“I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now,” he began.

The musician then continued, “You know, there have been rumors about me seeing and all that? But seriously, you know the truth.” Fans at the venue responded with applause to those last words.

Wonder then explained that he became blind shortly after he was born. However, he believes that it was a “blessing” because he can see “the world in the vision of truth.”

“See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit,” he added before the video ended.

As the moment circulated online, fans and viewers took to the comments section to express admiration and gratitude. One person wrote“It brings me such joy that Stevie is still with us.”

Another responded“Truth and wisdom right THERE!!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥,” while someone else simply shared“So beautiful 💛.”

Some reflected on the necessity of his statement, as one wrote“Shouldn’t have spoken about it ,he has nothing to prove [sic].” Another fan noted“Insightful words of wisdom,” and someone else added“❤️a good soul.”

Similarly, one netizen reflected“This man sees the world and people’s nature far further than most non-blind people ever will.” And perhaps summing it up best, one fan simply wrote“World treasure he is ❤️ [sic].”

This isn’t the first time that Stevie Wonder has talked about his condition or addressed how others perceive people with disabilities.

During an interview for the United Nations, from a video compilation uploaded in 2024, the legendary musician explained, “Even though it is considered that we have a so-called disability, we really are abled [sic] persons with different abilities.”

Additionally, he has also talked about the spiritual way he interprets others. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 for Apple TV, the host remarked that Wonder could not see color, referring to the color of people’s skin.

The musician responded, “No — well, I do see color, but I don’t see it like that. I see color in the spirit of the person. And your spirit is either good or bad. That’s the bottom line. You are living for the perpetuation of life or you are actually killing yourself with the hate you have within. That’s what’s up.”

Despite what most people may believe, Wonder lives a regular life. During an interview for Ability Magazine in February 2015, he was asked about his hobbies outside performing.

Wonder said that he loved sports, including bowling, basketball, air hockey, and roller skating, but his true passion was music. When asked if he had ever tried golf, the icon responded, “No.”

When asked if there was anything the musician had done that would be considered outside the norm for people who are blind, Wonder shared that there was nothing in particular, but that he would be open to learning new things, like a new sport.
