The rapper’s relationship with the late model was described by some as troubled. After her passing, stories about their romance and the details of her death surfaced, which their children firmly denied in a detailed public statement.
Diddy, real name Sean Combs, had an on-and-off relationship with model and actress Kim Porter for over ten years before they finally ended things. Their widely followed romance often drew media attention, with some alleging that he had been physically abusive.

Diddy and Kim, who started seeing each other in the ’90s, had a stormy relationship through the years. They had three children together — twin daughters Jessie James and D’Lila Combs, and son Christian Combs. Kim also had a son, Quincy Brown, from her earlier relationship with Al B. Sure!.

Their relationship hit a rough patch in 1999 when they broke up and later found themselves in court over child support for Christian. During that time, Diddy was also in a two-year relationship with Jennifer Lopez before he and Kim reconciled in 2003.

In July 2007, a spokesperson for Diddy confirmed that he and Kim were no longer together after ten years. Around that time, someone close to Kim shared that she had left the apartment they once shared.

She moved into a new place in Los Angeles with her children. Reports added that the mother of four had also purchased a home in Beverly Hills after leaving Diddy’s New York City residence.

After moving out, Kim later explained why she waited for Diddy to be away before leaving. She packed up everything, including the cars and nursery furniture, because she knew he wouldn’t let her go otherwise. The actress added that she needed to make a bold move so he would understand she was serious:
“I wanted him to know I wasn’t breaking up with him for two weeks — or maybe leaving for two days. If I pack up everything — twins and all — it means I’m out!”

Kim believed that Diddy responded more to actions than words, so she felt a bold move was necessary. In her view, simply telling him she was leaving would not have been enough.

Right after sharing why she packed up and left, Kim also opened up about what made her end the relationship. She said that rumors of Diddy having a child with someone else played a role.

But more than that, she wanted a new direction for her life. Kim said she had given ten years, raised their children, and stood by him, but now it was time to focus on herself and what she wanted for her future.

The model later shared that ending the relationship was a choice she made for herself, Diddy, and their family, adding that they would stay friends and co-parents. Someone close to Diddy said he was deeply hurt, describing Kim as a longtime part of his life and like his best friend.

Before their split, more insight into their relationship came out during a feature in Essence. In the interview, Diddy said he wasn’t ready to get married:
“I know she deserves to get married, but I’m just not ready. It’s not a reflection on how much I love Kim. It’s that I’m just learning how to be a good boyfriend.”

Kim also spoke about their family life, “He could be a little more attentive to his family, but I understand who he is and what that requires of him.” She noted that Diddy worked hard to give them the best.

While the Georgia native recognized Diddy’s dedication to their family, her views on their future together were clear. When asked if she would marry him, she answered:
“I would say ‘No.’ And not because I don’t want to get married, but because he’s not ready to get married”

It wasn’t because she didn’t believe in marriage, but because she felt he wasn’t ready. Kim explained that when she gets married, she wants it to last. For her, both people need to want the same things and let go of old habits. She didn’t think Diddy was prepared to make that kind of promise.

Some years later, tragedy struck. In November 2018, Kim was found dead in her home at the age of 47. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a call in Toluca Lake, California, and found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members said Kim had gone to bed early the night before because she wasn’t feeling well. When they checked on her the next morning, she didn’t wake up. According to reports, she had been sick for days with either the flu or pneumonia and had been getting fluids and vitamins to help her recover.

Years after Kim’s passing, new details about her relationship with Diddy began to surface. According to former Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry, things between them were far from easy. “I remember Kim used to go through a lot of stuff,” he said.

Mark described their bond as toxic, “If you live around them, you get to see the toxic relationship. I think every relationship he had that I experienced around him was like that.” Two sources also claimed Diddy physically abused Kim during their time together.

As conversations around Kim’s relationship with Diddy continued, with suspicions of foul play in her death, the model’s children decided it was time to speak out.

In a statement shared by Quincy, they called out the false claims about their mother and shut down rumors that she had written a book. They said anyone claiming to have her manuscript was not telling the truth and had no right to speak on her behalf.

They also said no real friend of their mother would use her name in that way. The children said losing Kim broke them and confirmed there was no foul play in her death. They asked for privacy and peace as they continue to mourn.

The family also urged everyone to remember their mother for the kind and loving person she was, not for rumors or conspiracy stories.
