Whitney Purvis, who appeared on the first season of “16 and Pregnant,” was turned away from her 16-year-old son Weston Jr.’s funeral on Saturday, June 15, after arriving past the reported start time.

A source close to the family told TMZ that Purvis was devastated after being told she wasn’t on the guest list and was asked to leave the Georgia funeral home where the service was held.

Purvis said she believed the funeral was scheduled to start at 4 p.m., a time reportedly communicated to her by Weston Jr.’s father, Weston Gosa Sr. However, upon her arrival, she was told that the service had actually begun at 2 p.m. and was already underway.

No one from her side of the family was allowed inside, according to the source. Gosa disputed her account, telling TMZ he had informed all guests that the viewing would be from 2 to 4 p.m., with the service beginning at 4 p.m.

He claimed to have personally invited Purvis a week before and stated her name was included on a guest list shared with the funeral home. He added that Purvis arrived after 4:15 p.m., by which point the chapel doors had been locked.

When she was told it was too late to enter, tensions reportedly flared outside. Gosa also said she later messaged him in anger, accusing him of deliberately excluding her. To refute her claim that she hadn’t been on the list, he said he sent her a photo showing otherwise.

He noted that her mother, aunt, and uncle were able to attend and arrived around 3 p.m. Despite the situation, Gosa and his wife Amy chose to give Purvis a separate urn with a portion of Weston Jr.’s ashes as a gesture of goodwill.

The funeral took place nearly two weeks after Weston Jr. passed away on June 2. In an earlier interview with People, Purvis recounted learning about her son’s death while arriving for a class.

Initially, she ignored Gosa’s call due to a disagreement, but after receiving a second call and a “911” text, she answered and immediately sensed something was wrong from the sound of his voice. She was told that Weston Jr. had struggled to sleep the night before and had been up repeatedly.

Gosa found him unresponsive the next morning at 7 a.m. Emergency responders were called, CPR was administered, and he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His cause of death was listed as natural causes.

In the days following his death, Purvis described feeling immobilized by grief, often crying until her eyes were swollen and spending hours in silence. She said she found it difficult to talk to others and preferred to be alone as she processed the loss.

She remembered her son as a kind, shy teenager with a love for animals, computers, and video games. He had aspirations of becoming a YouTuber and was known for his gentle nature and sense of humor.

She called him a great big brother and a “perfect kid” who never caused trouble. Purvis and Gosa also share another son, River, born in 2014. She said River, who has autism, doesn’t fully grasp what has happened.

Amid the tragedy, Purvis said she has found some comfort in the support she’s received. “It’s nice to see people care and care about him,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the support people have been giving me and giving his father and stepmom.”
