On Monday, Oct. 27, Kendra Bird posted a\u00a0family photo on Instagram, updating her followers that her 9-year-old daughter with stage 4 cancer\u00a0has \u201cbeen sleeping for most of the week, she\u2019s retaining water in her face, feet and belly, she doesn\u2019t eat anymore, and is on oxygen pretty regularly.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs much as I want the miracle so badly, l feel like the \u2018realistic\u2019 part of my mind is grasping for my heart, trying to pull it back into my chest, and tell my soul that I need to surrender,\u201d continued Kendra on social media. \u201cI\u2019m hurting. Every day feels heavy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brie was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer five years ago and was placed in hospice earlier this year. Her mom has shared her cancer journey on Instagram under the handle \u201cbriestrongerthancancer,\u201d which has nearly 1 million followers.<\/p>\n
In her health update, Kendra recounted a recent conversation she had had with her daughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I sat by Brielle\u2019s bedside one morning, she turned over and said, \u2018Someone is talking to me from heaven, an older person, I don\u2019t know if it was a grandma or grandpa; they said my name,\u2019 \u201d wrote Kendra. \u201cI of course, put on my brave face, and asked her what else the angels are saying to her. She couldn\u2019t keep her eyes open for long, but reassured me that she would let me know what else they say.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier in October, the Bird family\u00a0celebrated Christmas several months early after Kendra shared that her daughter\u2019s health had \u201ctaken a turn.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe decided to get a blood transfusion so that she can hopefully have some more good days,\u201d wrote Kendra on Instagram at the time. \u201cThis transfusion has already brought down her heart rate, lessened her fever, her oxygen has improved, and we\u2019ve had great conversations!\u201d<\/p>\n
Brie\u2019s story also caught the attention of pop singer\u00a0Ariana Grande\u00a0in August, who\u00a0mailed her a care package\u00a0full of\u00a0Wicked<\/em>\u00a0goodies in honor of Brie\u2019s love for the movie-musical. The box was full of plush characters from\u00a0The Wizard of Oz<\/em>, as well as OPI nail polish inspired by\u00a0Wicked<\/em>, two bold pink zip-up bags, a tote, some makeup from Grande\u2019s beauty brand R.E.M. and a bottle of Grande\u2019s Cloud Perfume.<\/p>\n
