Most married couples can relate to being asked\u00a0\u201cWhen are you having kids?\u201d\u00a0<\/em>But for\u00a0Charli Worgan<\/strong>\u00a0and her husband\u00a0Cullen<\/strong>, the question was different \u2014 and often far more painful. People didn\u2019t ask\u00a0when<\/em>\u00a0they would have children. They asked\u00a0why.\u00a0<\/em>The Sydney-based couple both have different forms of\u00a0dwarfism<\/strong>, and from the beginning of their relationship, they faced constant public scrutiny. Their height drew attention wherever they went, but when Charli became pregnant for the first time, that curiosity often turned into judgment and disbelief.<\/p>\n

Still, Charli and Cullen refused to let others define their path to parenthood. They wanted a family of their own \u2014 and they were determined to make that dream a reality. Building a Family Despite the Odds. When Charli gave birth to their first daughter,\u00a0Tilba<\/strong>, the couple was overjoyed. Holding her in their arms, all the fear and outside noise faded away. Their baby girl was healthy, happy, and perfect in every way. Shortly after, Charli decided to create a\u00a0social media account<\/strong>\u00a0to share her family\u2019s everyday life \u2014 not for fame, but to\u00a0educate<\/strong>\u00a0others about dwarfism and to challenge stereotypes.

What began as a small project soon grew into something far bigger than she expected. Within a few years,\u00a0her Instagram account attracted over 300,000 followers<\/strong>, many inspired by her honesty, humor, and courage.<\/p>\n

A Third Pregnancy \u2014 and a Difficult Reality<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Charli and Cullen are now parents to two beautiful daughters \u2014\u00a0four-year-old Tilba<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0two-year-old Tully<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 both of whom inherited one of their parents\u2019 genetic conditions. But when Charli announced that she was\u00a014 weeks pregnant with their third baby<\/strong>, her joy was mixed with fear.<\/p>\n

For most mothers, reaching the 12-week mark is a time of celebration \u2014 a chance to finally share the happy news. But for Charli, it marked the beginning of another round of\u00a0painful and emotional genetic testing<\/strong>. Because of their unique genetic makeup, each of their pregnancies comes with\u00a0four possible outcomes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    Their baby could be of\u00a0average height<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Their baby could inherit\u00a0Achondroplasia<\/strong>, the same type of dwarfism Charli has.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Their baby could inherit\u00a0Geleophysic Dysplasia<\/strong>, the same type of dwarfism as Cullen.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Or, the baby could inherit\u00a0both conditions<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a combination called\u00a0\u201cdouble dominant dwarfism,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0which doctors have determined is\u00a0fatal shortly after birth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    That means, with each pregnancy, there is a\u00a0one in four chance<\/strong>\u00a0that their baby will not survive. So, while most expectant mothers at twelve weeks were picking out baby clothes or posting ultrasound photos, Charli was\u00a0lying on a hospital bed<\/strong>, preparing for a procedure known as\u00a0Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 similar to an amniocentesis. \u201cIt\u2019s a massive needle through my abdomen,\u201d she explained, \u201cto take a sample of the placenta, which carries about a 2% risk of miscarriage. It\u2019s the only way to find out the genetic makeup of my baby.\u201d The wait for results was agonizing. \u201cI wasn\u2019t just waiting to find out the baby\u2019s gender,\u201d she wrote on Instagram. \u201cI was waiting to learn whether I could bring this little one into the world come March 2021 \u2014 or if his or her journey would end before it began.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Facing Criticism with Grace<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    By choosing to share her family\u2019s story so openly, Charli has received both\u00a0incredible support<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0harsh criticism<\/strong>. Some people question her decision to have children at all, given the genetic risks. \u201cI\u2019ve copped criticism for choosing to have babies with these odds,\u201d she said candidly. \u201cThat\u2019s a whole conversation in itself. But by sharing this small piece of our journey, I hope people can understand that bringing a child into this world with my odds isn\u2019t simple \u2014 it\u2019s a deeply personal decision, filled with love, faith, and courage. It\u2019s all about being kind.\u201d Despite the online negativity, the overwhelming majority of followers rally around her with admiration. Through her posts, Charli continues to highlight not just the challenges of living with dwarfism, but the\u00a0joy, normalcy, and love<\/strong>\u00a0that fill their daily lives.<\/p>\n

    A Miracle Named Rip<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In late\u00a0February 2021<\/strong>, Charli gave birth to a\u00a0healthy baby boy named Rip<\/strong>. The news brought a wave of happiness to her supporters around the world. In her first post after delivery, Charli shared a heartfelt message alongside a picture of her holding her newborn son. \u201cI\u2019m tired,\u201d she wrote, \u201cbut I\u2019m feeling ever so grateful and lucky. There\u2019s no \u2018correct\u2019 way to do motherhood \u2014 but I\u2019m sure as anything, there\u2019s no \u2018wrong\u2019 way either.\u201d Her words resonated with thousands of parents who followed her journey, proving that motherhood \u2014 no matter what form it takes \u2014 is never about perfection, but about love and resilience.<\/p>\n
