\nEllen DeGeneres is putting her support behind Rosie O\u2019Donnell.<\/p>\n
The former talk show host, 67, gave a shout-out to O\u2019Donnell on Instagram on Sunday, July 13 \u2014 just one day after President Donald Trump claimed he was \u201cgiving serious consideration\u201d to revoking O\u2019Donnell\u2019s U.S. citizenship.<\/p>\n
DeGeneres responded to the news with a carousel post containing two slides. One featured a screenshot of Trump\u2019s July 12 social media post in which he claimed O\u2019Donnell, 63, was \u201ca threat to humanity,\u201d and the other showed O\u2019Donnell\u2019s response to the president.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood for you,\u201d DeGeneres wrote, tagging O\u2019Donnell.<\/p>\n
Alongside an image of Trump, 79, standing next to Jeffrey Epstein \u2014 who was charged with multiple offenses relating to the sex trafficking of minors \u2014 O\u2019Donnell wrote in an Instagram response to the president that she was \u201ceverything\u201d he \u201cfears\u201d: a \u201cloud woman,\u201d \u201cqueer woman,\u201d \u201cmother who tells the truth\u201d and an American who \u201cgot out of the country b4 u set it ablaze.\u201d<\/p>\n
The post came amid public outcry about Epstein\u2019s death \u2014 specifically claims that the Trump administration was mishandling the investigation into the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou build walls \u2014 I build a life for my autistic kid in a country where decency still exists,\u201d O\u2019Donnell continued in the message, later reposted by DeGeneres. \u201cYou crave loyalty \u2014 I teach my children to question power. You sell fear on golf courses \u2014 I make art about surviving trauma. You lie, you steal, you degrade \u2014 I nurture, I create, I persist. You are everything that is wrong with America \u2014 and I\u2019m everything you hate about what\u2019s still right with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou want to revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. I\u2019m not yours to silence. I never was,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donnell wrote in a separate post that \u201cthe president of the USA has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is \u2014 a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is why I moved to Ireland,\u201d she continued. \u201cHe is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy compassion and basic humanity \u2014 I stand in direct opposition [to] all he represents \u2014 so do millions of others. U gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies \u2014 ur a bad joke who can\u2019t form a coherent sentence #nevertrump.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump initially made his statement about O\u2019Donnell on his Truth Social platform, arguing that \u201cshe should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donnell, who previously confirmed that she had moved to Ireland on Jan. 15 with her 12-year-old child Clay, has long been critical of Trump and his administration\u2019s policies. She said the decision was in the best interests of herself and Clay as she alluded to the current administration\u2019s policies on TikTok.<\/p>\n
Legally, Trump does not have the power to revoke New York-born O\u2019Donnell\u2019s citizenship, per the 14th Amendment, which many prominent legal scholars say protects citizenship for all people born on U.S. soil.<\/p>\n
As for DeGeneres, she also relocated from the U.S. recently, to the English countryside with wife Portia de Rossi, a source told PEOPLE in November. Citing The Wrap at the time, Vanity Fair reported that DeGeneres told friends her move was motivated by the presidential election. O\u2019Donnell later told Us Weekly she was \u201cshocked\u201d that DeGeneres reportedly had a similar idea to move.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve never really known Ellen to say anything political in her life, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Trump.
