These images, tender and sincere, struck a powerful chord due to Bruce’s public health struggles. He was first diagnosed with aphasia in spring 2022, and in February 2023, his family confirmed a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In their\u00a0collective statement<\/u>, Demi, Tallulah, Rumer, and Scout Willis, along with Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, and their daughters Mabel and Evelyn Willis, explained that FTD involved more than communication challenges \u2014 it deeply affected behavior, personality, and language.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While the confirmation was painful, the family described it as a relief to finally have clarity. They also highlighted the devastating nature of the disease, noting that for people under 60, FTD was the most common form of dementia, and that diagnosis often took years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The statement also emphasized the current lack of treatments, underscoring the need for increased awareness and research. “Bruce always believed in using his voice in the world to help others,” they\u00a0said<\/u>, adding that he would have wanted to use his condition to bring visibility to the little-known illness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Since the announcement, the Willis daughters have shared many glimpses into their father’s life.
